the SERPENT project

The SERPENT project Collaborating closely with key players in the oil and gas industry, the SERPENT project aims to make cutting-edge industrial ROV technology and data more accessible to the world's science community, share knowledge and progress deep-sea research. Galleries, video of rare elbowed squid.
These exploration missions are really cool. I'm happily surprised that the oil companies are letting scientists use data from these dives.
Some more great photos here.

You know my boss once told me that he had seen videos of cormorants diving at a depth of 1km during an ROV survey. That story was clearly bullshit, although the same company definately did have an awesome giant squid video, which I was told was donated to 'science'.
