I nominate:

“War is war. We made a lot of mistakes, I’m sure of it. But there are a lot of mistakes we didn’t make, too.”

Stupid quotes, but not with any significant effect. How about these:

"I don't recall."

"Impeachment is off the table."

No "Don't tase me, bro"?

I liked ""The Bears are who we thought they were!"

That was last season, mate.

This is the first of these lists that didn't have "Don't tase me bro!" as number one, much less not included. Kind of refreshing.

Y'know, I only read this because I recently switched to Metafilter's "Plain Theme", and thought it was posted to Metatalk. So I was reading through this, all "who gives a shit about this? When is it going to get to the point where Mefi's mentioned?", and when it never came, I looked back to the page and realized, "hey, this isn't a Metatalk post! It's just a really shitty Metafilter post!".

I really like New York Magazine's list of best quotes from the year. I'm particularly fond of this gem from Black Eyed Peas' Will.I.Am: "It's easy, if you're a poet, to write complex verses like, 'I'm coming after you like VWXYZ.' Just think about that. It's like, 'Yo, V does come after U! That's fucking crazy!' My mind thinks like that all the time, coming up with crazy clever metaphors and rhymery thingies."

Ugh-- again with Ahmadinejad misrepresentation. I though the Post was smarter than that.

But at least they left out "Don't tase me, bro" - which trivializes police brutality and makes fun of the victim.

You get the feeling that any "worst of 2007" list coming out of America has to include a shot at Ahmadinejad, just so the author will be on record as waving the flag sufficiently.

The WaPo's list is lame, and you need to read through 2 pages of irrelevant verbiage to get to it.

Anyone wishing to do another "Top X Y of 2007" post can find fodder here. Hurry, the year's almost over.

"In Iran, we don't have homosexuals like in your country."

If only he had said this in an admiring tone, whilst sweating, tugging at his collar, and making sad, lonesome eyes at a bleach-tipped, square-jawed young thing in the front row.

I'm surprised the "We don't have homosexuals like in your country" issue has not come up in the republican debates.

"So Mr. Huckabee, Mr. Ahmadinejad of Iran informs us that there are no homosexuals in his country. What would you do to learn from his successes?"

Nobody expects beauty queens to be profound (see also: professional athletes, rock stars) but this one gets points for being an indictment of the same American educational system that was the basis of the original question.

No one expects them to be profound. Well the WAPO is not quite no one, but they're getting close to it.

I'm glad we're going into 2008 so I won't have to read another bit of fake righteous outrage about Don Imus ever again, mostly coming from the people or media outlets who have encouraged "politically incorrect" humor. Or at least I can come across the hypocrisy or unearned moral superiority less--well, that and accounts of Imus' endless, pathetic apologies.

Who decided the order? Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas takes the number one spot while Mahmoud Ahmadinejad wallows in fourth place? That is an offensive slap in the face to all us homophobics out there. Mahmoud Ahmadinejad FTW! Trickster and the Pied Piper would agree with me. Mahmoud Ahmadinejad makes me proud to be an American, where at least I know who's gay.

I demand a recount!

Who the fuck is Larry Craig? A senator from Idaho? Who might be gay? Whoop de damn do. The 'wide stance' joke is first off not even funny, secondly a sign of homophobia throughout the media that it even illicited attention at all, and third this whole thing is a rerun we saw this same story starring George Michael years ago. Larry Craig don't even deserve to be on the list, if for no other reason than he's from Idaho.

The Miss Teen thing was mildly funny, but nothing coming out of the mouth of a beauty pageant wannabe has ever moved mountains or started wars or brought an end to world hunger. I'm slightly more concerned with signs of retardation spilling from the mouths of people who pretend to be in places of power, than these jokes of media we deem to label celebrities.

Yes I know. Larry Craig's a senator - but he's from Idaho. Miss Teen hopefuls are slightly higher on the food chain of ridicule than anything from Idaho, unless you're a Miss Teen hopeful from Idaho.

I digress.

"Ooh! He verbally attacked a women's basketball team. Now that's just going too far!" Bite me. The whole Don Imus thing is a piece of shit. He has said far worse to far less deserving of his ire. That's his JOB. God knows what he called Princess Diana before and after her death. I bet 'nappy headed ho' would just scratched the surface. That's the shit he's been doing throughout his career. People are shocked to find he's an insensitive racist prattling jerk NOW? No one has an excuse to be upset with anything Don Imus says.

Y'know what I've done for years? I don't listen to Don Imus. About anything. I continue to not. Works great for me. The value of his word is worth less than zero. Would only the rest of the world get a clue.

New count:

5. Don Imus
4. Miss Teen South Carolina
3. Clarence Thomas
2. SolisTrato
1. Mahmoud Ahmadinejad

"That's some nappy-headed hos there."

Why is it whenever I read this in print, I reminded of the the incredibly white announcer at the end of this clip saying "damn, those bitches represent". Which kind of undercuts the inappropriateness of Imus' comment, because it's sets a big stupid grin on my face.

"Yes I know. Larry Craig's a senator - but he's from Idaho."

You might have something there if he was in the House, but last I checked every state has exactly two Senators, so that whole "Idaho is worth less 'cause they're out West and filled with hicks" thing ain't exactly applicable here.

That's not to say Idaho isn't filled with hicks, 'cause it is.

Mr. Crash Davis : "so that whole "Idaho is worth less 'cause they're out West and filled with hicks" thing ain't exactly applicable here."

Hicks? I'm from Texas. I didn't say anything about hicks one way or the other.

I never said anything negative about the people of Idaho. I'm sure they're very nice people and all that. It's just.. Idaho. The state. It hangs there on the map as a geographical blot on this fine nation of ours. It serves no suitable purpose. The only thing it might be known for is potatoes. I'm not saying it's bad or filled with hicks. I'm just saying it's a lame state. The name is lame. The lack of significant tourist traps is lame. The passing significance of whatever sports activity it participates in... meh. It's Idaho! Bleargh!

Also I don't put much stock in either the house or the senate any longer, so the fact he's a senator isn't exactly applicable here. Denise Crosby factors higher than a senator from Idaho, and when was the last time she did anything?
