How did Adriana's top end up as a skirt?

Melfi's office is one of the few places where one always sees the characters' feet. An interesting behind-the-scenes look at dressing the Sopranos by Emmy-winning costume designer Juliet Polcsa.

They read like some asinine fashion blurb in like Comso or the SI swimsuit edition.

I thought it was more interesting than not, xmutex. All these little considerations and details are a necessary part of costume design, and it adds so much to the whole, even though the viewer may barely notice.

Dansko clogs on Artie. Nice touch.

Nice post. Think Little Steven wears his work clothes out to parties afterwards, like Gandolfini does?

Yes I did, then wondered WTF the Sopranos had to do with it...

I didn't realise van Zandt's real wife plays his TV wife. And now I'll have to watch for people wearing light-coloured shirts, because it means they're possibly about to die.

I'm a recent Sopranos addict, and this is cool.

Another Sopranos addict here, and I really liked the link. Wish they'd accelerate the next season, already.

That was great. It's hard to believe they pick specific episodes for the Emmys.

No, but I'll bet he walks around with his shoulders hunched over and his bottom lip sticking out.

Did I read correctly that the sixth season won't come out until 2006!?

The next season doesn't even begin shooting until April 2005.

I found the costume design section of The making of the Big Lebowski fascinating. (The book is priceless for many other reasons, too, most off-topic.)

For example, the ancient sweatshirt that the Dude wears (with e.g. no filling anymore) was bought in a set of six, each powersanded on the inside, and machine-washed with "stage dirt", over and over to age them. Donny has a huge collection of vintage bowling shirts, all with different names. But the biggest surprise to me was that the costume designer had to think hard about the look of every extra (in e.g. the bowling alley), not just the principals.

This was really interesting. Usually I don't care about clothes at all, but it was cool to see how the designer put so much care into the small touches.
